History:
The company was founded originally in 1848. It became N. ROBERT-BORNAND & FILS, then LEON N. ROBERT (see). In 1911 LEON N. ROBERT became MARC DUBOIS & CO., La Chaux de Fonds, for a short time.
ERNEST TOLCK registered the Chinese mark in 1912 for watches, watch parts, boxes and all articles used in horology, clockwork, jewelry, goldsmithing, and optics.

A two-page ad in 1917 and 1918 called the company ERNEST TOLCK, Successor of MARC DUBOIS & CIE, specializing in small watches from 8 lignes in gold and platinum cases, under the brand names Logic, Sincere, Metropole, and For-Ever. Another specialty was 8-day lever watches for automobiles and carriages under the brands Logic and Octo; one model came with a dial to time a course. The other page ad was for FABRIQUE D'HORLOGERIE "OCTO" and showed patented 8-day automobile clocks and an easel watch; besides Octo a brand was Madu. Another two-page ad in 1919 was for the same products but with all new illustrations. The Octo page now said their 8-day clocks were for automobile, carriage, airplane and motorbike, with a patented winding system through the bezel. The ERNEST TOLCK page of the ad now showed jewelry wrist watches from 7 lignes in round and fantasy form shapes and also a 30 ligne Logic 8-day automobile clock with a short mainspring.

The company was listed in 1920 as ERNEST TOLCK, MONTRES OCTO and LOGIC, for eight-day watches and in 1923 for gold watches, small pieces, automobile, sports, and eight-day watches. Another listing in 1923 showed Octo as a brand of COULERU. The company was listed in 1923 with quality gold watches, brands Octo and Logic. A 1925 ad was for eight-day Octo and Logic, watches for automobiles, carriages, and motorcycles, KW and pendant set, and for easel watches 24 and 19 lignes. The company was listed for the same products in 1925, and also for large and small gold lever watches, small platinum watches, form movements, wrist watches, watches for automobiles, eight-day clock watches, travel watches, and paper-weight watches.

The company was listed in 1927 as ERNEST TOLCK for making for and selling to China. It had a full page ad that year showing two kinds of automobile clocks and a 24-ligne watch with a short mainspring; they specialized in eight-day watches for automobiles, aircraft, motorcycles, carriages, dressing tables, easel watches etc; they had movements with long and short mainsprings.

OCTO exhibited at Basle in 1949. It was listed in 1951 as OCTO SA and in 1952 as a US importer using an A. SCHILD 11 1/2 ligne Caliber 1158 movement in its 1209 model. A 1953 ad said that the company was then in Bienne.

The company was listed in 1966 as OCTO SA, plus an ad which said "a totally magnetic watch, an ultra-precise compass (is found) here in the Octo watch-compass;" patented in the US and in Switzerland. It as also listed in 1966 as MONTRES OCTO SA for watchmaking for export and watches wholesale.

Trade marks: "RB Registered," a pine tree -- first registered by N. ROBERT-BORNAND & FILS (1887).

History:
The first firm was founded in 1848.
In 1887 N. ROBERT-BORNAND & FILS registered the "RB" trade mark.
In 1901 LEON N. ROBERT registered as successor to N. ROBERT-BORNAND & FILS for making watches, watch parts, boxes and packagings.
In 1905 registration of N. ROBERT-BORNAND & FILS for watches and watch parts was transferred to LEON N. ROBERT. In 1907 a similar registration for watch cases and watch parts was transferred.

Swiss patent No. 37769 of 1906 for a watch with a device to light the dial electrically, was transferred to MARC DUBOIS in 1911; this patent had been granted to Victor Valloton in 1906 and transferred to LEON NUMA ROBERT in 1908. In 1908 LEON N. ROBERT was granted Swiss patent No. 43799 for a perfected alarm movement. Another LEON NUMA ROBERT Swiss patent, No. 47978 of 1909, for an alarm watch movement, was transferred in 1911 to F. AUBRY-SCHALTENBRANDT.

In 1911 LEON NUMA ROBERT became MARC DUBOIS & CO. which then became E. TOLCK which then became OCTA
