BLANCPAIN Fifty Fathoms MILSPEC 1 Swiss Military Watch
Here is a vintage Blancpain watch that may be a Polish Issue Military Diver's watch. Watch was found in a box of items purchased at an estate auction. Watch is in good, sound, running condition. Watch was snapped onto a very old and worn leather strap with fringe, and still affixed to the band is what looks to be a small thermometer. Thermometer is working as well. I removed the watch from the strap and polished it somewhat with a gentle cream polish. It did clean up quite nicely. I did not attempt to unscrew the back, and I really dont want to. The numeral markers do illuminate well in the dark. The crystal is raised above the face with a nice bevel, about 1/8" or so, maybe a little less. Crystal has numerous small fine scratches. The second hand works very well. Watch seems to keep good time. The housing of the watch has integral lug areas. The overall length of watch case area is about 2 1/8". The round part including the outside black area showing marks and numbers 15, 30 and 45, is about 1 3/4". The round part on the very edge may have a couple teeny nicks. The time sets well .>>>>>>>>> I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL <<<<<<<<<. PLEASE DO NOT BID IF HAVE LESS THAN 10, 100% Feedback!! I will only ship to US and Great Britain. THANK YOU.

THIS MORNING I WAS ABLE TO GET THIS TO A MASTER JEWELER with over 50 years experience. He pronounced the movement area "very very clean". He said he doubts if watch had ever been opened in the past many years and certain no water has ever penetrated. He said the gasket is nice not cracked or dry. He said there is a little discolor in some of the housing grooves, dust cover has slight pitting, but has done a fine job protecting the watch. He suggested that when the new owner receives the watch that if you have it cleaned, be sure that it is put back together with a pressure tool, to guarantee proper sealing. I will be sending the watch to you "put back together" but it will not be tight, that will be up to you. THE WORDING I SEE ON THE INSIDES: BLANCPAIN RAYVILLE S.A. R.570 SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS UNADJUSTED SWISS, THEN THERE IS A SMALL SYMBOL : AS in a shield, 1361 under the AS. WATCH IS BEAUTIFUL

Auricoste Lemania 19NT Pocket Chronograph Chrono Watch
You are looking at a vintage Auricoste pocket chronograph watch from around 1931. The Lemania, 19 ligne, calibre 19NT movement is running well and keeping good time, with the one-button chronograph feature working seamlessly. The movement is very clean although the service history is unknown.
Auricoste was the main supplier of timepieces to the French Navy from the late 19th century to well after the second world war. This company still exists and still supplies timepieces and other timekeeping devices to the French military.
Auricoste had a very close relationship to Lemania from the inter-war years until the 1960s. Virtually all issued pocket chronographs and comparing watches from this period, which were distributed by Auricoste, were made by Lemania. Notable to collectors are the Auricoste Type 20 chronographs issued to the French Air Force throughout the 1950s and into the early 1960s.
To those who are familiar with French issue Auricoste pocket chronographs, you will notice that the engraving on the caseback is identical to those timepieces marked “Ministère de la guerre” (the English translation is: “War Ministry”). In 1931, there was no war. Therefore, this piece cannot be marked as such.
This is the only example of an Auricoste chronograph that I’ve seen marked in this manner. You’ll also notice the dial is similar though not the same as the “Ministère de la Guerre” pieces… there is a slight difference in the numerals. This pocket chronograph may very well be a very early French Navy issue pocket chronograph. Since it does not have actual verifiable military markings, more examples will need to surface in order to ascertain this. I have not yet come across a second example of this watch and believe me, I *have* searched.
This watch comes from my personal collection and is being sold to fund other purchases. Such is the ebb and flow of collecting.
The beautifully nickel-plated case is in excellent shape except for the clumsy marks left on the caseback from someone having tried to open the back with too dull a knife. You can clearly see this in one of the photos below. The watch is signed “J. Auricoste” on the inner dust cover. The caseback is engraved with "No. 40 1931". This type of engraving is consistent with wartime issue Auricoste chronographs.
The white porcelain dial is damaged only at the dial feet, at 2 and a little past 8. This, again, is clearly shown in the photo. Other than this it has no other damage (not even the slightest blemish or hairline crack). The hands have still retained their blue steel tinge. The acrylic crystal is perfect and scratch free.
As mentioned above, the Lemania calibre 19NT movement is very clean, keeping good time, but the service history is unknown. The chronograph function is performing perfectly and exactly as it should.
The diameter of the watch is 51mm (16 size).
This piece could very well be the “missing link” in your French Navy timepiece collection!
