Rebberg Watch Co.
Other company names:- S.AEGLER; MANUFACTURE D'HORLOGERIE "REBBERG"; ROLEX WATCH CO., JEAN AEGLER; VE JEAN AEGLER; LES FILS DE JEAN AEGLER.
The company was established in 1878 by Jean AEGLER who died in 1891.His widow took over the running of the firm which became VE JEAN AGLER (which means widow of Jean Agler) and by 1902 there son Hermann was involved. The Rebberg trademark was registered around this time and developed from the district of Rebberg in Bienne where they were based.
In 1905 Hans Wilsdorf of Wilsdorf & Davis contacted Hermann and they improved one of Hermann's movements under the Ve Jean Aegler name and Wisdorf placed a very large order for them.
During 1906 the company name was changed to Les Fils De Jean Aegler, Fabrique Rebberg.
In 1908 Wisdorf adopted the name Rolex and wanted this name only on the watches. A battle between Wisdorf and Aegler followed which Wisdorf won. Aegler registered Rolex as its trade name in 1913, for the manufacture of watches and watch parts. During the wars both names continued to develop. In 1919 Rolex finally incorporated as Montres Rolex SA with its manufactory listed as Manufacture Des Montres Rolex, Aegler SA.
The Rebberg workshop was still listed in 1923. The connection between Aegler and Rolex continued until the 1950's when Rolex started to add other makers. Aegler was still listed in 1966 but after that date the name Aegler was dropped.
Voici quelques photos

Cordialement.
Gaël.
